Cooking is now one of my greatest hobbies. When I have some free time, there are only two types of food I like to cook: steaks and barbecue, especially pork belly. As I do not have a smoker at home, most of the barbecue is cooked on an ordinary oven. It was very surprising to me that the art of preparing great barbecue without any traditional equipment became even more interesting. There is always something new to try while cooking.
One of my greatest favorites is pork belly, which can be prepared slowly with the seasoning and barbecue sauce making a difference during a few hours of cooking. It is really tough waiting for so long before the meal, with that barbecue scent filling the house. At times, mistakes may occur and the pork belly will not come out how I would wish for it to come out. However, knowing why usually makes cooking it easier the next time.
Cooking also brings to mind my time spent in Houston. Food was part of every family reunion, weekend and even some of the memories that I remember. Since I am attending university now, there is no such thing as family dinners on a regular basis anymore. Creating my own meal in my kitchen provides me with that feeling. It might just be a dinner, but a meal like that can sometimes take me back home.
I use barbecue websites when I want ideas for seasonings, temperatures or different ways to cook meat. One website I like to look through is Hey Grill Hey because it has a lot of barbecue recipes and cooking ideas.
